N.R.A. Basic Instructor Training

Course Description: To be certified as an NRA Instructor, students must complete a 6-hour classroom course that teaches material common to all NRA courses. That course does not certify the instructor candidate to teach any NRA courses. Additional discipline-specific instructor training is required to certify instructor candidates to teach specific courses.

Arizona Gun Teacher . com can certify NRA instructors in the following disciplines: Home Firearm Safety, Pistol, Personal Protection In the Home, Rifle and shotgun. NRA instructors can also be certified as Range Safety Officers through additional training.

The first day of NRA instructor training consists of the 6 hour basic instructor training. Tuition includes all NRA materials required for each course.

Topics: Policies and procedures for conducting NRA courses, NRA instructor eligibility requirements and responsibilities, ordering materials for courses, general techniques for teaching gun safety and shooting, using NRA lesson plans.

Length: six hours

N.R.A. Pistol Instructor

Course Description: This course certifies NRA instructors to teach the Basic Pistol and First Steps Pistol courses.

Topics: Using NRA lesson plans to teach Basic Pistol, First Steps Pistol Cost: see current schedule Length: 10 hours + exam

Prerequisites: NRA basic instructor training (6 hours), NRA Home Firearm Safety instructor (4 hours)

Required Equipment: A centerfire handgun, a minimum of 2 spare magazines or speedloaders, eye and ear protection, a baseball cap (to deflect spent brass and keep the sun out of your eyes) and a minimum of 100 rounds of ammunition. N.R.A. Rifle Instructor

Course Description: To be certified as an NRA Instructor, students must complete a 6-hour classroom course that teaches material common to all NRA courses. That course does not certify the instructor candidate to teach any NRA courses. Additional discipline-specific instructor training is required to certify instructor candidates to teach specific courses. This course is intended to develop NRA Certified Instructors who possess the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to conduct the NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course and First Steps Rifle Course.

Length: fourteen hours Prerequisites: Must have completed the 6 hr general NRA instructor training, and be an NRA Certified Instructor.

This course is intended to develop NRA Certified Instructors who possess the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to conduct the NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting Course and First Steps Shotgun Course.

Home Firearms Safety Instructor

Course Description: Instructor candidates learn the proper method of teaching by following the N.R.A. procedures for teaching the basics of home firearms safety.     This course addresses safety rules, proper handling of firearms in the home, and storage of firearms in the home.  The course also teaches ammunition storage, how to identify various firearms that may be in the home, how to make sure a firearms is unloaded, and more.

Personal Protection In The Home Instructor

Course Description: Instructor candidates learn the proper method of teaching by following the N.R.A. procedures in order to teach others about personal protection in the home.  This training only applies to protecting ones self, or family members within the home.  This training does not apply to personal defense outside the home: this is covered in the N.R.A. Personal Protection Outside the Home course.  Details of this training will be given to qualified candidates only upon request.

Topics: Instructor candidates requesting this class must first be a N.R.A. certified pistol instructor, and at least 21 years of age. 

Length: eleven hours

NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Training

Course Description: This course is intended to develop NRA Range Safety Officers who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations. This course is strongly recommended for instructors as well as anyone running a firing line at a commercial or gun club range, or anyone working as a match official at any type of shooting competition.

Topics: The role of the range safety officer, range inspection and range rules, range safety briefing, emergency procedures, firearm stoppages and malfunctions, review and test.

Length: eight hours

Prerequisites: previous shooting experience
